gliding
At aerodromes other than forwhich contra-circuits areprescribed, gliders are
generally required to conform to the established circuit direction. However,
unforeseen circumstancesmay occasionally compel a glider to execute a non-
standardpattern, including use of the opposite circuit direction inextreme
cases.
At non-towered aerodromes a listeningwatchon theCTAF ismaintained
during aero-tow launching by the tug pilot, andduringwire launching by the
winch or tow-vehicle driver. The tug pilot orwinch/car drivermay be able to
advise glider traffic information to inboundor taxiing aircraft.
Wherewire launching is used launchingwill cease, and thewirewill be
retracted ormovedoff the strip, when another aircraft joins the circuit or
taxis, or a radio call is received indicating this. Awhite strobe light is displayed
by awinch, or a yellow rotating beaconby a tow-car or associated vehicle,
whenever the cable is deployed.
Gliders are not permitted to perform aerobatics, including spin training, within
2 nmof a licensed aerodrome below 2000 ft AGL. Gliders arenot permitted
to perform continuous 360 degree turns nor to use thermal lift on the live
side of a common circuit area (including the circuit area beingused by known
traffic on a crossing runway) unless theymonitor theCTAF and giveway to
maintain adequate separation from other traffic in the circuit area.
