Note: Many factors, such as the limitations of radar andADS-B, volumeof

traffic, ATCworkload and frequency congestionmay prevent ATC

from providing a surveillance service. The reason for not providing or

continuing to provide the service in a particular case is not subject to

question, nor need it be communicated to the pilot.

If, following a request for aRIS, a request for flight following is notmade

and the requested information has been provided to the pilot, ATCwill advise

‘IDENTIFICATION TERMINATED’ to indicate that the surveillance service is

terminated.

Note: WhenATS surveillance services toVFRflights are terminated,

pilots shouldmonitor theATS frequency appropriate to their area of

operation.

If the pilot has requestedflight following, theRISwill be providedon

an ongoing basis, and generally limited towithin the controller’s area of

responsibility. However, theRISmay be terminated at any time by the

controller, or by pilot advice.

Whilst receiving aRIS, the pilotmust:

• maintain a continuous listeningwatchwithATC and adviseprior to leaving

the frequency; and

• adviseATC prior to any changes to track or level.

Approaching the boundary of the controller’s area of responsibility, the pilot

will generally be advised ‘IDENTIFICATION TERMINATED, FREQUENCY

CHANGEAPPROVED’. If a continued service is requested, the pilotmust

advise ‘REQUESTHAND-OFF FOR FLIGHT FOLLOWING’ and, subject to

the approval of the adjacent ATC unit, the pilotwill be instructed to change

frequency for continuation of theRIS.
