TESTINGOFRADIOAPPARATUS (CAR 242)

Unless exempt, before an aircraft is taxied on themanoeuvring area of an

aerodrome for the purpose ofmoving to the take-off position, thepilot in

command shall check that the radio apparatus fitted to the aircraft and to be

used inflight is functioning correctly. If the check indicates anymalfunctioning

of any portion of the radio apparatus the aircraft shall not beflown until the

apparatus has been certified by a person licensed or approved for thepurpose

as being inproperworking order.

LISTENINGWATCH (CAR 243)

When an aircraft is equippedwith radio apparatus for useduring flight, the

pilot in commandmustmaintain a listeningwatch, ormust ensure that a

listeningwatch ismaintained, at all times commencing immediately prior to

the time atwhich the aircraft commences tomoveon themanoeuvring area

prior to flight and lasting until the aircraft is brought to a stop at the apron or

other point of termination of the flight.

Where themeansof communicationbetweenair trafficcontrol andanaircraft

under itscontrol isavoicecommunicationchannel, thepilot incommandandany

otherpilot for the timebeingoperating thecontrolsof theaircraft shall personally

maintaina listeningwatchon theappropriate radio frequency.

MOVEMENTONMANOEUVRINGAREA (CAR246)

Immediately prior to take-off, the pilot in command shall manoeuvre the

aircraft so that he or she is able to observe traffic on themanoeuvring area of

the aerodrome and incoming and outgoing traffic, inorder that he or shemay

avoid collisionwith other aircraft during the take-off.

SAFETYPRECAUTIONSBEFORETAKE-OFF (CAR 244)

Immediately before taking-off on any flight, the pilot in command of an aircraft

shall:

• test theflight controls on theground to the full limit of their travel and

make such other tests as are necessary toensure that those controls are

functioning correctly;

• ensure that locking and safety devices are removed and that hatches,

doors and tank caps are secured; and

• ensure that all external surfaces of the aircraft are completely free from

frost and ice.
