ACTION INTHEEVENTOFA FIREHAZARD
A fuelling operation shall be suspended and theAirport FireServicenotified
when any fuel of a quantity likely to create a firehazard is spilledon orwithin
15metres (50 feet) of the aircraft or ground fuelling equipment, including the
bilge of a fuellingbarge, and theoperation shall not recommenceuntil the fire
hazard is removed.
A fuelling operation shall be stopped as soon as it becomes apparent that
an infringement exists of any of the relevant requirements of CAO 20.9.
When any fuel of a quantity likely to create a firehazard is spilled onorwithin
15metres (50 ft) of the aircraft or ground fuelling equipment, the pilot in
command or, in his absence, theoperator shall ensure that:
• mobilepower units, vehicles and power operated loadingdevices
operatingwithin 15metres (50 ft) of the spilled fuel are shut down; and
• maintenancework of any nature on orwithin the aircraft is suspended and
not recommenced until the spilled fuel has been removed.
STARTINGANDRUNNINGOFENGINES (CAR230)
A personmust not:
• start the engine of an aircraft; or
• permit the engine of an aircraft to be run;
except that:
the enginemay be started or run if the control seat is occupied by an
approvedperson or by a personwhomay, under CARPart 5 (flight crew
licencing), fly the aircraft; or if the aircraft is an aeroplane that is having
maintenance carriedout on it, or that is being used for theprovisionof
maintenance training, the enginemay be startedor run if the control seat is
occupied by a personwho:
• holds an aircraftmaintenanceengineer licence, or an airworthiness
authority, coveringmaintenance of the aircraft’s engine; and
