TESTSBEFOREANDDURINGTHETAKE-OFFRUN (CAR 245)

CASAmaygivedirectionsspecifying the tests tobecarriedout by thepilot in

commandof anaircraft before thecommencement of, andduring, a take-off run

inorder tobesatisfied that theengineandassociated itemsof equipment are

functioningcorrectlywithin thepermissible limitsof performance.

Before the commencement of, and during, a take-off run, thepilot in

commandof an aircraft shall:

• carry out all tests required to be carried out in relation to the aircraft as

above;

• test all flight instruments, and, in particular, all gyroscopic flight

instruments, that it is possible to test so as to ensure that they are

functioning correctly;

• ensure that all gyroscopic flight instruments are correctly set anduncaged;

and

• perform such checks and tests as are requiredby theflightmanual, or

other document, for the aircraft.

If an inspection, check or testmade under the above indicates any departure

from thepermissible limits or anymalfunctioning in any particular (not being

a departure ormalfunctioning that is a permissible unserviceability), the pilot

in command shall not commence the take-off or, if thepilot has commenced

the take-off, shall abandon the take-off or take suchother action as thepilot

considers appropriate to ensure the safety of the aircraft andof persons on

board the aircraft.

PRE-FLIGHTALTIMETERCHECK (AIPENR1.7)

Apre-flight altimeter check is required at sites of knownelevation andwhere

an accurateQNH is available. TheVFR altimeter accuracy requirement is

±100ft or 110ft at sites above3300ft.
