• the operator shall obtain approval fromCASA for thedetailed procedures

underwhich these operationsmay be performed. Theseprocedures

shall be described in themaintenancemanual and shall include: the

circumstances underwhich refuelling or defuelling in hangars or

maintenance area is permitted, and themaximum volume of fuel involved.

For the above purpose, a sealed building is onewhich all theexternal part

within15metres (50 ft) of an aircraft’s fuel tank filling points or vent outlets or

ground fuelling equipment is of non-flammablematerials andhas noopenings

or all openings are closed.

Where the fuelling equipment is notmobile, the aircraft shall be so placed

that it can be rapidlymoved to a placeof safety, and ameans of ensuring that

this can be done shall be readily available.

Note: The following operations arenot deemed to constitute fuelling

operations:

• the drainage of a small quantity of fuel from a fuel systemdrain point; and

• the transfer of fuel from tank to tankwithin an aircraftmaking use

exclusively of lines and equipment permanently installed in the aircraft.

PASSENGERSONBOARDDURINGREFUELLING

Theoperator of an aircraftmust ensure that avgas is not loadedonto an

aircraftwhile passengers are on board, or enteringor leaving, the aircraft.
