AIRCRAFTOFF-TRACK INCONTROLLEDAIRSPACE -
ADVICETOATC
In controlled airspace, separation standards are based on the pilotmaintaining
track as closely as possible at all times. Corrective actionmust be taken to
regain track as soon as any deviation is observed.
Additionally, thepilotmust immediately notifyATC if the aircraft is found to be
off-track by any of the deviations describedbelow:
• where track guidance is provided by a localizer or VOR—half-scale
deflection ormore of theCourseDeviation Indicator (CDI)
• where track guidance is provided byNDB or Locator—±5 degrees or
more from the specified bearing;
• where the track guidance is provided byDME—± 2nm ormore from the
required arc;
• where the track guidance is provided by anRNAV system—an indicated
crosstrack deviation of ±2nm ormore;
• andwhen navigating by visual reference to theground orwater—more
than 1nm from the cleared track.
The values given abovemust not be interpreted as defining a sectorwithin
which the pilot is permitted to navigate.
DeviationsFROMTRACK
In controlled airspace, any deviation from track requires prior clearance from
ATC, except in an emergency. The values given inprevious paragraphsmust
not be interpreted as toleranceswithinwhichdeviations from trackwithout
clearance are permitted.
DeviationsDUETOWEATHER
