VFR FLIGHTSENTERINGCLASSCAIRSPACE

Before reaching the boundary of ClassC airspace, the pilotmust establish

two-way communicationswithATC on the frequency notified on the chart, in

ERSA, or AIPSupplement or NOTAM, and obtain a clearance.

When advance notification has not been provided, the pilotmust advise the

following toATC before the point of intendedentry:

• aircraft call-sign ‘INBOUND/TRANSITDETAILS’ (wait for ATC to respond

with your call-sign) then advise:

– flight rules and aircraft type

– position

– route and next estimate, and

– preferred level

The area VHF frequencymay be used to obtain a clearancewhen out of range

of theATC frequency, or to obtain advice as the appropriateATC frequency on

which a clearance canbe obtained. If the flightwill transit aRadar Information

Service (RIS) area before entering controlled airspace, clearance request

should bemade on theRIS frequency.

If landing at an aerodromewhereATIS is provided, thepilot should obtain

theATISbefore the first contact on the approach frequency. Onfirst contact

adviseATIS received.

The clearance to enterwill specify the altitude, track and any holding

instructions. Some of these itemsmay be combinedwith the clearance

‘CLEAREDFORVISUALAPPROACH’.
