NOTIFICATION - GENERAL (AIPENR 1.10)
Pilots of VFR flights nominating a SARTIME toATS, and those intending to
operate in controlled airspace (except for VFR flights inClass E airspace)must
submit flight details toATS.
Thepreferredmethods for pilots tosubmit comprehensiveflight notificationare:
• via pilot access toNAIPS via the internet;
• inwriting;
• by telephone; or
• by radio to FlightWatch.
Pilots submittingSARTIME flight notifications by facsimilemust confirm
receipt of thenotificationwith the briefing office. Further, Airservices strongly
recommends thatwhen any flight notification is submitted by facsimile, the
pilot or operator telephones the briefing office beforedeparture to confirm
that the facsimilehas been received.
Abbreviateddetails for operations incontrolledairspacemaybeadvisedby radio
if theflight is tooperate locally, or operationswill be for abrief duration.However,
prior contactwithATCmayavoiddelays. Pilotsmaysubmit detailsby radio toATS
whenassociatedwithaclearance request, or tonominateaSARTIME.
When submitting flight notificationby radio, pilots shouldbemindful of the
need tominimise frequency congestion and transmit only that information
required by theATS for the current flight stage. Acceptance is subject toATS
workload andmay be delayed.
Submission of comprehensive travel flight notification by radio is not a
preferredmethod of notification and should not beusedwhen submission
by some othermeans is available. Flight notificationby radio for travel flights
requiring the submission of comprehensive detailswill not be accepted at
controlled aerodromes.
Pilots of VFRflightswishing to operate inother than classesCor D airspace,
andwhowish to nominate a SARTIME,may submit details in theNAIPSflight
notificationSARTIME format. If submitting theflight notificationby facsimile
or via telephone, theonly form available is theAustralianDomestic Flight
Notification form.
VFR flights in the following categories are required to submit a SARTIME
flight notification toATS, or, as an alternative, to leave a Flight Notewith a
responsible person:
