NOTAM (AirServicesRegulation4.12,AIPGEN0.1)
There are3 types of NOTAMs available to pilots inAustralia. They areHead
OfficeNOTAM, FIRNOTAM, and LocationNOTAM.
NOTAM provide information that is of direct operational significance and
whichmay immediately affect aircraft operations. ANOTAM is issued in a
format containing the following fields:
• Location identification;
• Time of commencement of informationor time of publicationwhere
prior notification is required. This date/timewill then reflect the actual
commencement time of theNOTAM information;
• Time of cessation of information;
• Times of periods of activity;
• Plain language text;
• Lower limit; and
• Upper limit.
In the domestic environment, NOTAM numbering is preceded by the letter
‘C’ followed by the year e.g. C0689/08.
For each location, a separate series of numbers is issued; thus theNOTAM is
identified by both location and the number, not by the number alone.
In the international environment, Australia issuesNOTAM against a series of
registers. These registers are by individual FIRs,multipleFIRs, or Australia
General. The individual FIRs andmultiple FIRs registers are further subdivided
byNOTAM category.
The series are as follows:
Brisbane FIR - ATS andPRDNOTAM category D
Brisbane FIR - all other NOTAM category
N
Melbourne FIR - ATS andPRDNOTAM category E
Melbourne FIR - all other NOTAM category
