WEIGHTANDBALANCE (CAR 235)
CASAmay give directions as to how toestimate or determine theweight and
centre gravity of a particular aircraft andmay require changes to the published
weight and centre of gravity limits.
These limitations are found in the aircraft flightmanual or placard information
andmust be compliedwithduring all stages of flight.
In determining themaximumweight and centre of gravity limitsCASAmay
take into consideration:
• the type of aircraft;
• the kind of operations to be carried out during theflight;
• the performance of the aircraft in configurations inwhich it is likely tobe
flown andwith faults that are likely to occur;
• themeteorological conditions at the aerodrome atwhich the aircraft is to
take–off or land;
• the altitudeof the aerodrome atwhich that aircraft is to take–off or land;
• the aerodromedimensions in thedirection inwhich the aircraft is to take–
off or land;
• thematerial ofwhich the surface of the aerodrome in the direction in
which the aircraft is to take–off or land is constituted and the condition
and slope of that surface;
• the presenceof obstacles in the vicinity of the flight path alongwhich the
aircraft is to take–off, approach or land;
• the anticipatedmeteorological conditions over the intended route tobe
flown by the aircraft after take-off and over planned divergences from that
route; and
• the altitudeof the terrain along and on either side of the intended route
tobe flownby the aircraft after take-off and of planneddivergencies from
that route.
An aircraft shall not take–off, or attempt to take–off, if its grossweight
exceeds itsmaximum take-offweight or, if a lesserweight determined in
accordancewith a direction under CAR 235 is applicable to the take-off, that
lesserweight.
