Whenmeteorological conditions at the aerodromes of intended landing are
forecast to be less thanVFRminima of a 1500 ft ceiling and a visibility of
8 km (AIPENR 1.1), the pilot in command shall make provision for an
alternative course of action and shall arrange for the aircraft to carry the
necessary additional fuel.
This alternateprovisiondoes not apply to day VFRflightswithin50nm from
the point of departure.
WEATHER FORECASTREQUIREMENTS (CAR239)
Weather forecastsmust be either a flight forecast or an area forecastwith
an aerodrome forecast for the destination and, when required, the alternate
aerodrome.
For flights forwhich a forecast is required and cannot beobtained, theflight
is permitted todepart provided the pilot is satisfied that theweather at the
departure pointwill permit the safe returnof theflightwithinone hour of
departure. The flight is permitted to continue if a suitable forecast is obtained
for the intended destinationwithin 30minutes after departure (AIPENR1.1).
An alternatemust be provided for flightsmore than 50nm from point of
departurewhen forecast conditions at thedestination arebelow theVFR
alternateminima of 1500 ft ceiling and 8 km (AIPENR1.1).
