TRACKKEEPING (AIPENR1.1)

Tolerances are applied to tracks to assess containment areas for thepurposes

of ensuringnavigational integrity, separation fromother aircraft, terrain and

obstacle clearance, and avoidanceof specified airspace. Although allowing for

theerrors inherent in thenavigation systemsused, these tolerances arebased

on the assumption that thepilotwillmaintain track as closely aspossible.

Thepilot in commandmust, at all times, take positive action to regain track as

soon as a deviation from the correct track is recognised.

AVOIDINGCONTROLLEDAIRSPACE (AIPENR1.1)

When operatingVFR inClass E or G airspace, the following tolerancesmust

be applied to the planned tracks inorder to avoid controlled airspace or

restricted areas.

0-2000AGL

± 1 nm (day)

±2 nm (night)

2,001-5000AGL

± 2 nm (day)

±3 nm (night)

5,001-10000AGL

± 4 nm (day)

±5 nm (night)

Gliders should apply

± 5nm

From 10 001 to FL 200 all VFR aircraft should apply ±8 nm
