Whenweather conditionspermit, theflight crewof an aircraftmust, regardless
ofwhether anoperation is conductedunder IFRor VFR,maintain vigilance so
as to see, and avoid, other aircraft.
DAYVFREQUIPMENT (CAR 174AANDCAO20.18)
The flight andnavigational instruments required for flights under theVisual
Flight Rules are:
• an airspeed indicating system;
• an altimeter, with a readily adjustable pressure datum setting scale
graduated inmillibars;
• a direct readingmagnetic compass; or
- a remote indicating compass and a standby direct readingmagnetic
compass; and
• an accurate timepiece (clock orwatch) indicating the time in hours,
minutes and seconds.
Note that aircraft, other than helicopters, engaged inVFR charter or aerial
work operations also require:
• a turn and slip indicator (agricultural aeroplanesmay beequippedwith a
slip indicator only); and
• an outside air temperature indicatorwhen operating from an aerodrome
atwhich ambient air temperature is not available from ground-based
instruments.
