ACertifiedAir/GroundRadioService (CA/GRS) is an aerodrome-based radio
information service, whichmay operate at non-controlled aerodromes. The
service is a safety enhancement facilitywhichprovides pilotswith operational
information relevant to theparticular aerodrome. The service is operatedby or
for the aerodrome operatorwithin the hours published, on theCTAF assigned
to the particular aerodrome. It is not anAirservices or RAAFprovided air
traffic service.
Theservice isnot aseparationservice.
The call-sign of the service is the aerodrome location followed by ‘Radio’; e.g.
‘AyersRockRadio’. The radio operators of the service have been certified to
meet aCASA standard of communication technique and aviation knowledge
appropriate to the service being provided.
When aCA/GRS is operating, pilot procedures areunchanged from the
standardnon-controlled operating and communication procedures.
Theoperational information provided by aCA/GRS assists pilots inmaking
informedoperational decisions. Pilots retain authority and responsibility for
the acceptance and use of the information provided.
Aircraftmaking thenormal inbound or taxiingbroadcast receive a responding
broadcast from theCA/GRS operator, conveying the following information:
• Confirmation of correct CTAF selection.
• Current known, relevant traffic in the vicinity and on themanoeuvring
area of the aerodrome. Traffic informationmay include someor all of the
following:
– the call-sign, aircraft type, position and intention; or
– where circuit flying is in operation, general adviceon thenumber of
aircraft in the circuit, and position in the circuit if relevant.
Note: This information is provided to assist pilots in arranging self-separation.
• Weather conditions andoperational information for the aerodrome.
The informationwhichmay be advised includes:
– runway favoured bywind or noise abatement;
– wind direction and speed;
– runway surface conditions;
