ONREQUESTSERVICE - FLIGHTWATCH
An on-request FIS is available to aircraft in all classes of airspace onATCVHF
or HF (Domestic and International) frequencies.
Pilotsmust prefix any request for FIS onATCVHF frequencieswith the call-
sign of the appropriateATC unit and the generic call-sign ‘FLIGHTWATCH’
e.g. ‘MELBOURNECENTRE FLIGHTWATCHREQUESTACTUALWEATHER
(location)’.
Due toworkload considerations, ATCmay re-direct pilot requests for FIS to an
alternativeVHF frequency or FlightwatchHF.
Whenoperating onDomesticHF (call-sign ‘FLIGHTWATCH’) and International
HF (call-sign ‘BRISBANE’), pilotsmust include the frequency onwhich they
are calling, e.g. (‘FLIGHTWATCH or BRISBANE), ROMEO JULIETDELTA, SIX
FIVE FOURONE, REQUESTACTUALWEATHER (location)’.
Informationwill be provided in an abbreviated form, paraphrased into brief
statements of significance. The full text ofmessageswill be provided on
request.
