Windshearwarnings provide information on observed, reported or assessed
risk ofwind shearwhich could adversely affect aircraft between runway level
and1600 ft above that level. AWindshearwarningwill be cancelledwhen the
wind shear is no longer expected.
This service is provided at Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney,Melbourne, Adelaide,
Darwin, Perth and someDefence locations.
Whenwindshear is forecast, or reportedby pilots at an intensity greater
than ‘light’, this information, togetherwith a forecast low level wind, will be
included on theATIS at any of the above aerodromes.
AerodromeWeather Reports
are reports of observations ofmeteorological
conditions at an aerodrome. The reports aregenerated by electronic recording
devices called automatedweather stations (AWS) andmay havemanual input
by approved observers.
ROUTINEREPORTS (METAR)
are issued at fixed times, hourly or half-hourly,
and aremade available at preflight briefing or on request to aircraft in flight.
SPECIALREPORTS (SPECI)
are aerodromeweather reports issued
wheneverweather conditions fluctuate about or arebelow specified criteria.
