PILOTRESPONSIBILITY

Pilots are responsible for requesting information necessary tomake

operational decisions.

OPERATIONAL INFORMATION

Information about the operational aspects of the following subjects is

normally available fromATS:

• meteorological conditions;

• air routes and aerodromes, other thanALAs;

• navigational aids;

• communications facilities;

• ATSProcedures;

• airspace status;

• hazard alerts;

• search and rescue services;

• maps and charts; and

• regulations concerning entry, transit anddeparture for international flights.

IN-FLIGHT INFORMATION

The in-flight informationservicesarestructured tosupport the responsibilityof

pilots toobtain information in-flightonwhich tobaseoperational decisions relating

to thecontinuationordiversionof aflight. Theserviceconsistsof threeelements:

• AutomaticBroadcast Services;

• OnRequest Service; and

• HazardAlert Service.

AUTOMATICBROADCASTSERVICES

The automatic broadcast services consist of:

• Automatic Terminal InformationService (ATIS);

• Automatic EnRoute Information service (AERIS);

• AerodromeWeather InformationService (AWIS), and

• Meteorological Information for Aircraft inFlight (VOLMET).
