(hhmm) so 300minutes is 0500 (note: unfortunately this is contrary to the
common practice on flight plans and flight logs used in navigationwhere
times are kept inminutes);
• aircraft types are international designations i.e. aWarrior is a P28A (listed
onAirserviceswebsite and inNAIPS);
• route—useDCT for “direct” (this limits information to departure and
destination aerodromes) or list significant points along route;
• performance category is based on an aircraft’s speed at threshold (VAT);
CategoryA is up to 90KIAS andCategoryB120KIAS (AIPENR1.5); and
• NAIPSwill not let you nominatemultipleSARTIMEs formultistage
flights so either use ‘TBA’ for the later stages and activate them via
FLIGHTWATCH or nominate a SARTIMEonly for the final stage.
A flight notification form is accessed via theNAIPS briefingmenu.
Neither of theNAIPS formats are intended for use inflight. Aflight plan
form is required for this purpose. Since theSARTIME formatmay not
contain sufficient detail for search and rescue purposes, a flight notewith
a responsible person plus a SARTIME notification provides themaximum
protectionpossible provided that the flight notedetails are available to
AusSar. Oneway to ensure this is to add these details to theRMK/: section
such as : ‘Flight notewithBunyipAeroClub (03) 9739 1406’.
