Hi all,

according to my practise exam provider there is a possibility of GAF and GPWT questions in the CNAV exam! However there is nothing I can see in Bobs CNAV book that references GAF/GPWT, is this something I need to consider before sitting the exam?

thank you

I don't remember getting any GAF and GPWT questions in Nav, definitely got a few in Met though! (although the exams are all starting to blend into one so I could be wrong...)

Part 61 MOS says for CNVC:

2.4.1 Review computations and conversions and:
(a) solve GS, distance, fuel used, fuel required, fuel remaining and fuel consumption problems, given appropriate combinations of these factors; and
(b) solve CAS/TAS problems given air temperature and pressure height; and
(c) determine HDG, GS and drift given TAS, W/V, TR; and
(d) determine TR given HDG, TAS, W/V; and
(e) solve problems relating to rates/gradients of climb and descent; and
(f) determine TOPC and TOPD position using average airspeed, W/V, and rates of climb/descent.

So you'll be expected to solve various problems given W/V, but doesn't say how you're given W/V.  From memory I think it was just stated in the question.  Have you done Met yet? If you have I don't think you'll have any problems if you are given a GPWT. If you're worried about it maybe just spend half an hour looking at GPWTs and make sure you can extract the winds from them?

Hi James,

Just consider the format of the wind, is the direction given in degrees True or Magnetic? The question should give you the source of the wind velocity GPWT, TAF or ATIS which will answer that question.

Cheers W
