An aircraftmust not fly over:

• any city, town or populous area, at a height lower than 1000 ft; or

• any other area at a height lower than 500 ft.

A height specified above is the height above the highest point of the terrain,

and any object on it, within a radius of 300m; from a point on the terrain

vertically below the aircraft.

Paragraph1 does not apply in respect of a helicopter flying at a designated

altitudewithin an access lane details ofwhichhave been published in theAIP

or NOTAMS for useby helicopters arriving at or departing from a specified

place.

Paragraph1 does not apply if:

• through stress ofweather or any other unavoidable cause it is essential

that a lower height bemaintained; or

• the aircraft isengaged inprivateoperationsor aerialworkoperations, being

operations that require lowflying, and theowner or operator of the aircraft

has received fromCASAeither ageneral permit for all flightsor a specific

permit for theparticular flight tobemade at a lower heightwhileengaged in

suchoperations; or

• the pilot of the aircraft is engaged in flying training and flies over a part of

a flying training area in respect ofwhich low flying is authorised byCASA

under sub regulation141 (1); or

• the pilot of the aircraft is engaged in a baulked approachprocedure, or the

practice of such procedure under the supervision of a flight instructor or a

check pilot; or

• the aircraft is flying in the course of actually taking-off or landing at an

aerodrome; or

• the pilot of the helicopter is engaged in:

– a search; or

– a rescue; or

– dropping supplies in a search and rescueoperation; or

– operation by, or for the purposes of, theAustralian Federal Police or

the police force of a State or Territory; and
