Hi,
I was hoping to get some help with this question:

Given wind velocity is 180M at 180 knots. What cross wind component would you expect for take-off on runway 22?

I don't understand the answer: 22 kt from the left.

Hi Nikita,

Could you just double check those numbers. Are you sure it was a 180 kt wind - that'd be a heck of a crosswind :)

Ohh sorry, wind velocity = 25 knots..

Hi Nikita,

If you are taking off on runway 22, that means the heading you will have when lined up for take off will be about 220 degrees magnetic. If the wind if blowing from 180 degrees magnetic, the wind is blowing from a point 40 degress to the left of the nose. Using the headwind and crosswind component chart in ERSA GEN-CON, we can calculate the crosswind component quite easily:

From this you can see the crosswind component would actually be 16 knots from the left. You would get 22kt of crosswind if it was a 35kt wind or you were on runway 24 and not runway 22. Runway 24 has the wind blowing 60 degrees to the left of the nose and therefore experiences more crosswind.
