Hi,

In the performance book, 35%MCP is usually used in the examples when calculating the fuel required for a search. However if the question doesn't state what MCP to use, however it does state that it's for the Echo..Would you take the search fuel at the 45%MCP holding rate or go with 35%MCP?

Thanks!

G'day CPA,

In the exam, they will give you the power setting to use so make sure you calculate using their figures. In the search area, you will be flying for maximum endurance to maximise time in the search area so it would make sense to fly using minimum power. That's why we use 35% in the calculations.

Cheers,

Rich

Also you will find that in the CASA examination they will give you the actual fuel consumption figures to use for any question. I have used the ECHO fuel flows for various power settings in the book, but but CASA will give you the fuel flows for each situation - that actually makes it easier.

Cheers

Bob
