I was just attempting review question 6 on page 3.19
An obstacle situated on the extended centreline of an ALA is 45 feet high. The recommended minimum distance from the end of the strip to this obstacle is closest to.
a) 150 m
b) 275 m
c) 200 m
d) 250 m
My reasoning; convert the 45 feet to meters by multiplying by .305 = 14.75 meters. recommended gradient is 1:20 therefore 14.75 X 20 = 295 m
Hmm but it seems I'm wrong.
answer on page 3.35 multiplies 45 feet by 20 to get 900 feet, then convert to meters by dividing by .305 = 275 meters
I cant figure out why it makes a difference which order you do the feet to meters conversion in, and what will CASA expect on the test?

Sorry guys, I either have big thumbs or my calculator battery is going flat 45 x .305 = 13.275 x 20 = 274.5 The same as Bob's answer.... All good, just answered my own question.
