Hi all,

My name is Andrew Foley. I am a Check and Training Captain with Singapore Airlines, B777. I have come to this web page just thinking of the old times with Bob in Ingham, to complete my CPL Subjects. I was 15 when I first started to fly. Went solo at 16 and had a commercial license by 18.

Fresh out of high school, I went to Ingham with Bob in 1977 - 1978? What a great time, we live in an old pub, run by Italians, ate their food and played their sports! Most important of all, we passed our CPL subjects.

In the 1980's, I was lucky to start flying with TAA on DC9's and later promoted to Boeing 737's. After the Pilot Dispute in 1989, I managed to get a job with Tradewinds, Singapore, now, SilkAir. After 8 years there, I was selected to become an instructor on the Singapore Airlines Lear 45 program. This took up to 3 years of my live and meant, 6 months, flying in the US. I was then transferred to the B777 for another 3 years. Then to the B747-400 for another 3.5 years. I'm now back with the B777.

I've lived in Singapore over 20 years. My wife is Singaporean and I've got one daughter.

Sorry to take so long, all I want to say is, "Bob, it has been a blast." Thank you so much for your help.

To anyone who is looking for a great lifestyle, what could be better, then to be paid well to do your hobby.

Andrew

Thanks so much for posting on the forum. This is exactly what we hoped for. The forum is there for blokes like you from the good old days and for all of those who are starting out on the exciting path of an aviation career. I well remember the fun we had at Ingham and the many wonderful people who were part of it. Hard to believe that a little sugar-farming town in far north Queensland is remembered so fondly by so many airline pilots. Here's hoping that some of them might stumble across this forum and put in their 'two bobs worth'. Thanks again

Bob
