Good Day Bob
The DME limit in a holding pattern is the distance at which the outbound leg must be terminated and the turn inbound commenced and the limit can be exceeded once the turn is commenced.
So exercise 5 number 37 D is correct
a slight contradiction in the exam prep is confusing me doesnt B and D mean the same?
But why B is not acceptable whereas it was in exercise 5?
I'm not sure what date your book is, but in the current print of the book choice (d) in Exercise 5 Question No 37 is "not beyond 5 DME" and not "not before reaching 5 DME". Nobody said you MUST fly outbound until 5 DME before you commence the inbound turn. The DME limit means that you must not extend your outbound leg beyond 5 DME before commencing the turn.
