Bob Rich, can you please explain this question ? I was under the impression if your a CATB aircraft you use max speed is170kts
Also in an exam situation and the box is shaded should you take the 100ft or only if it says the QNH is available ?
While operating in the BRISBANE, QLD (YBBN) RWY 01 VOR holding pattern at 4000 ft in a category B aeroplane, the maximum IAS which may be flown without ATC approval is -
Select one:
230 kt
170 kt Incorrect
220 kt
180 kt
The speed limit in a holding pattern is 230kt at FL140 and below, unless you are flying a holding pattern that is designed for Category A and B aircraft only, in which case the speed limit is 170kt.
The RWY 01 VOR approach is not limited to Cat A and B aircraft only. Therefore the 170kt restriction does not apply.
As for taking 100ft off, the question *should* either say you have the current QNH or it will be implied "You have been cleared for the xyz approach". A clearance for an approach includes the current QNH. Anyone with current IREX exam experience is welcome to comment on that!
