Hi lilo,
The Radio Nav-aid is beacon so to speak that you tune up in the cockpit that will either point to beacon or give a track to follow to or from it. You also use it to navigate your way around the country side without sight of ground or water. In other words, in cloud.

An Instrument approach is a procedure you fly using said Radio Nav-aid to guide you down through the weather to bring you to a point where you be either lined up with the runway or in position to fly a circuit and land. If you can't see the runway or identifying features of the runway enviroment, the Instrument approach will have instructions to basically go-around, rejoin the approach and try again.

hope this helps.

regards,

Mister W.
