Hi Bob,

Firstly, like to say thank you for all the knowledge shared in all the CPL books, self studied and manage to get 90+ for them so was wrapped.

Decided to tackle IREX and for the most part of section 1 it's made sense.
Example 2 of Combining radio navigation with the 1in60 Rule has stumped me. (P1.99) specifically with how you came up with the 10degrees left drift.
My only assumption is i've gotten confused with the TMG(160*+5*TE=165*) and the original FPT 155*.. I'm actually stumped trying to explain it.

It's made sense to me as I'm writing this (obviously did get the TMG and FPT confused) but can you or anyone explain it a little more?

Remember the definition of drift is "the difference between the heading that you held and the track that resulted."

The heading that you held was 160° [given].
The track that resulted was 150° [from the 'HAT TRICK'].
The difference between them is 10° and you are flying left-wing-first so it's 10° of left drift.

The 1 in 60 rule assumes that, if you change your heading, the track made good will change by the same amount. So, if you change your heading from 160 to 170, the track will change from 150 to 160. The difference remains the same at 10° so the drift is constant throughout.
