Runway Visual Range

Spinrecovery created the topic: Runway Visual Range

Hi,
I would like to know what is difference between the ground visibility that has the word RVR in front and the one that does not in the minimum landing section on the approach chart. For example, RVR 1/2 or 24 and 1/2, do they mean the same thing for precision, non precision, and circling approach?
Cheers

Hi Spin,
I think you will find that it's all to do with what kind of equipment and sensors they have(or don't have) to determine visibility. I have only seen RVR on CAT III approved ILS approach plates. They seemed to have first appeared in this country with the arrival of the A380s on the scene.

Have a look at ENR 1.5-26 AERODROME METEOROLOGICAL MINIMA. You might find some answers there.

Haven't seen RVR 1/2 before unless it means 1/2 mile.

Cheers,
Mister W
