These are on sequential pages but seem to contradict one another. Do I need to be ten percent smarter? I feel like overshooting is the correct perspective.

Runway sloping down With the aircraft on a normal ap-
proach path with respect to the horizontal, the perspective of
the runway makes it appear that the approach is too low. The
pilot compensates by flying a higher approach, resulting in an
overshoot or a high speed at the runway threshold.


A pilot may think that he/she is too HIGH on approach [and therefore tend to undershoot] when:
The runway slopes down to [up from] the threshold.
The terrain slopes up to [down from] the threshold

I am guessing your on page 46, this topic is a popular one with confusion amongst many students, we have discussed it in context with expected exam questions.
The illusion is that the aircraft will be high on approach, so therefore the pilot will try and correct the illusion and undershoot the runway. The 2 passages are different discussions, 1 being the illusion and 2 being the consequence. CASA love the confusion around this topic.
