can someone please advise re a reference for CHT and EGT please that I could reference
the circumstances when they go up and down and the implicatoins of these please
Not sure precisely what it is you are seeking. However, pretty well any reference will say something along the lines of -
(a) if things get hotter, both indications will show hotter. Conversely, should things start to cool down both indications will show cooler.
(b) noting that the combustion gas processes are what is causing the temperature variations, EGT responses to temperature will be very rapid as EGT measures gas temperature. On the other hand, the gas temperature variation will then effect a temperature variation in engine structure which, in turn, is measured by CHT. You would expect a somewhat slower variation in CHT indication.
The implications relate to pilot engine handling. CHT is a pretty agricultural measurement and needs to be approached fairly conservatively. EGT the pilot lives and dies by .... In respect of either, you should follow the OEM's POH guidance material.
Bob's System book will be appropriate to your basic requirement, I would suggest.
