mattg created the topic: Holding requirements when operating within 50nms of an aerodrome

Hi Bob,

Wrt AIP ENR 1.1-87 para 59.2.5:

It appears that this para applies for VFR when operating within 50nms of departure aerodrome as no reference is made to 59.2.1.

In other words, holding fuel is not required when operating within 50nms (59.2.4) unless the holding requirement is due to thunderstorms (59.2.5).

Thanks,

mattg

That is correct. It's a bit strange isn't it? AIP ENR 1.10 para 1.1 says that as a VFR flight, you must get a TAF if you are planning to fly away from the vicinity of the aerodrome (10nm), but AIP ENR 1.1 para 59.2.1 says you don't have to take any notice of it unless you are going more than 50nm. Strange rule that one!
