Trying to figure out why the answer for Air Law Final Practice Exam 1 Q42:
VFR passenger flight over water, for distance between land areas suitable for emergency landing is apparently '50nm'? AIP ENR 1.1 11.11.2 states 'not exceed 25NM'.
Hope to get some clarification, thanks.

Standard conundrum and a regular question. If you have a small island suitable for an emergency landing, say, then you can either look 25nm ahead .... or behind .... to meet the requirement ..... ergo 50nm total distance
