CANCEL SARTIME created the topic: ADIZ
Good evening all,
Just completed a practice CLWA exam and I’m a bit confused on one question relating to an ADIZ.
“Any flight within an ADIZ will always be exempt from the “general requirements” for such operations if -
a) the flight does not proceed more than 5 nm of the point of departure
b) the flight originates from an aerodrome within the ADIZ
c) the true air speed is below 120 kt
d) the flight is conducted in CTA
I picked b) because it was more correct than a) when I read the bit in AIP
According to AIP ENR 1.12 paragraph 1.1.4 flights that are exempt from compliance with requirements in para 1.13 are
-a flight originating within an ADIZ which maintains a steady outbound track;
-a flight which remains within 10NM of the point of departure;
-aircraft performing published approach, holding or recovery procedures; and
-a flight conducted in accordance with special procedures arranged with the Area Air Defence Commander.
Just wondering if this is a typo or if I’m missing something here.
Cheers,
Mike
P.S Out of curiosity, I’ve never seen an ADIZ or even heard of them existing. Where are they?
Well, if a flight does not proceed beyond 5nm from the point of departure, it is also true that it did not proceed more than 10nm from the point of departure. Answer [a] is correct even though it does not exactly match the wording of the AIP.
