Refer to the “Piper” takeoff weight chart.
Given: Runway 08/26.
Takeoff distance available – 1200 metres.
Surface – short wet grass.
Slope – level.
Pressure height – 4000’.
Wind – 080°/05 kt.
Temperature – +28°C.
The heaviest takeoff weight permitted under the conditions given is closest to:
a. 1200 kg.
b. 920 kg.
c. 980 kg.
d. 1040 kg.

Here is my working out:

Reading off the chart I get around 1050. When I did this in pencil I ended up slightly below the 1050 mark, so 1040 seems the closest answer. However this turned out to be incorrect.

Can you redo again but make sure A:B = C:D

Several thing to ponder.

(a) TODA ? You might recheck that

(b) surface as noted by B

(c) wind component looks to be a tad rough ?

Perhaps redo the chart ?

Looking at the answers

(a) 1200 can't be correct as it's above the MTOW

(b) 920/980 are way below the weights we might be looking at

(c) that leaves 1040 which is pretty close to the WAT limit.

Pray tell what was the "correct" answer given ?
