Hi Bob,

I am on my third attempt of performance, and some of my KDRs are shockingly down to the basics.

I seem to missing some underlying principles and methodologies with respect to t/o & landing charts. I'd say as a result of self-study. I wonder you have general rules and guidelines that are the starting point for getting landing and takeoff charts right. I have read through the text of course but thinking that instructionally I lack the basics.

- When to ignore or account for winds; forecast vs. given wind and the adjustment for variation
- Slopes less than 1%
- When "maximum" is prefixed to instructions to find TODR or MTOW
-Plus any other common areas often misunderstood.

Thanks a lot

Better still - and it probably will help others - why not do a couple of examples and then post a scan of the charts with commentary.

Such might lead to an interesting thread of use to many.

Certainly, it allows us to provide the best practicable answers to help you sort out any difficulties with your technique. With the chart scan and your plotted lines, we can see what is going on and comment appropriately.

Thanks John, I'll be doing some practice exams and exercises today and will do as you have suggested.
