Hi Bob, Richard, and John,

Hope you all doing well.

I sat my first attempt for COPA and got 67%. Then I sat my second attempt and got 69%, yes it is really frustrating but I got my 3rd attempt coming up on Thursday 30/01/2025.

My main frustration comes from a 1 mark question that I got wrong in both attempts.

This question in particular has been asked before in a separate threads but mainly asking what is the ASDA? But the question that I got is asking what is the LDA? and I only found 1 person asked this question who wrote exactly like I got in my exam but has not been addressed:

https://bobtait.com.au/forum/performance/7461-failed-cpl-performance-my-questions-insight-on-what-was-inside-my-exam#15610

So the question is: TORA 1350m, and had an ASDA of 1400m, there was an additional 80m of clearway at the end of the ASDA, with a temporary threshold displaced by 40m at the start of the runway. What is the LDA?

a) 1480m
b) 1400m
c) 1310m
d) 1440m
e) 1350m

In my first attempt, I answered 1350m in which I realised after revision that I did not account for the displaced threshold, I just said oh yep LDA is same as TORA so it is 1350m.

In my second attempt, I answered 1310m and still wrong but still can not figure out why? I chose 1310m because 1350 TORA - 40m displaced threshold = 1310m of TORA which is also LDA.

I look forward for a prompt response to really solve this question

[color=red]EDIT: I just realised that I haven't got it wrong second attempt because that point is not shown on my KDR so my answer is right 1310m, must be!

The point in Part 61 MOS is Unit 1.9.6 COPA 2.1.2 (d)

But at least I am sure many would need an answer to this question since it's been asked, if no response I would assume it's correct 🙂 phewww

Try this link and download MOS Part 139 which has all the good gen.

If you download the pdf file the section of interest is around p130.

Hi Mate,

My CFPA is coming soon. Just wondering whether you have passed the exam. If possible, could you please share tips and tricks and question type.

Hi Nick123,

I passed my test 88% 🙂 about 5.5 months ago so my brain is not really fresh on the subject. But here is to the best of my memory:

32 questions 50 marks (possibly more, but that's the number I remember)
16 x 1 mark questions
12 x 2 mark questions
3 x 3 markers
1 x 4 markers

1 x 4 marks is basically PNR question that is the same as Bob's examples involving the ETP & PNR.

3 x 3 markers are the ones that involve the workbook charts (time consuming) again similar to Bob's examples. My very best advice is PLEASE be extremely accurate especially for T/O & Landing ones.

Be confident with adding and subtracting wight.

12 x 2 mark questions Mix of Fuel on board (both Part 91 & Part 135), SE, and other mid level questions.

16 x 1 mark questions calculating % MAC from a given weight , floor loading intensity, airspeed related (know the difference between turbulence penetration speed and manoeuvring speed, - Part 61 MOS Unit 1.9.2 POPA, 2.2.1 know every single one of them. know how to calculate ETI, know the question I asked above and answered it, know how to interpret ERSA aerodrome runway surfaces (Hard, asphalt, flexible), learn how to find flight notification form items in AIP, The ETP has been calculated for nil wind, after a recalculation there is a 20knot headwind, what effect does this have on the time? Do lots and lots of ECHO practice questions until you know all the numbers by heart - CG fwd & rear limits, arms, key weights & limits, minimum runway strip width - RWS at an airport (know how to find it in ERSA), ECHO Removal of Seats (calculate new IU when seats are removed).

Please see this forum as it summarises almost everything:

https://www.bobtait.com.au/forum/performance/4849-cfpa-exam-review

That is all I can remember and find helpful. I really recommend Bob's practice exams.

I am sorry if this wasn't as detailed as I would've been able to be if you asked me when I finished my test but I wish you the very best with your test and please update us how you go 🙂
