Hi all

just a few questions regarding Navigation Exam qusetions

1) if aircraft A was at 170 east and B was at 170 west which way would be the fastest to travel for aircrarft B to get to A?

2) Does the VOR change To-From flying over the station with out being tuned? or does it need to be tuned to the radial?

thanks heaps

Hi Parish,

Aircraft B would need to fly West. Think of it this way, aircraft A is at 170 degrees East which is also 190 degrees West. Aircraft B is at 170 degrees West so the quickest way to get to 190 degrees West is to fly West.

The VOR receiver needs to be tuned to the VOR frequency of the station you are passing over to get the To->From or From->To switch over. Which way it happens depends on the radial you have selected on the OBS. One thing is sure though, without tuning the station frequency it won't react at all to station passage.

Cheers,

Rich

The aircraft should fly EAST for the shortest distance

No, aircraft B would need to fly West to get to A. Aircraft A would need to fly East to get to aircraft B. Take a look at the following diagram to get the picture:
