Hey guys, just needed help regarding the use of the ersa. Is there any section of the ersa which can be used to determine the aerodrome name when the aerodrome code (eg YMMB) is given??

Many thanks.

ERSA encode at IND-GEN-1, decode at IND-GEN-29. See https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/ersa/LND__17-Aug-2017.pdf

More useful, I suggest to note the following internet sources which will give you a lot more information. For note, there are two main ID systems - ICAO and IATA.

(a) ICAO codes - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_by_ICAO_code:_Y which relates to ERSA aerodrome IDs.

(b) IATA codes - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_by_IATA_code:_A which relates to airline aerodrome IDs

Why the two ? Beats me .. I have often wondered but never found a satisfactory answer .. other than the NIH syndrome. A bit of background here - http://www.skygod.com/asstd/abc.html and https://www.icao.int/secretariat/PostalHistory/iata_international_air_transport_association.htm

You will find that you get used to the dual system after a while.

Some further background reading at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICAO_airport_code and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_codes

Thanks for that John. Those ICAO codes are very useful. They aught to be published in ERSA in that format.
