Can anybody help me decipher this question? I read it as, I had COMPLETED 2 early starts and due to Appendix 4 Para 11.3 (Maximum number of consecutive early starts permitted in a week is 3), I could only do one more early start therefore I had selected D. (1). Thanks in Advance.
The key is that Appendix 4 treats these starts in two different ways. A 3 am start is a WOCL infringement because WOCL is 0200–0559, while a 5 am start is both a WOCL infringement and an early start, because an early start is 0500–0659. The Air Law book states you cannot be assigned more than 3 consecutive early starts, unless FDP reductions are made for the 4th and 5th, and you also cannot infringe more than 3 consecutive WOCLs without an intervening off-duty period including a local night (Appendix 4 summary, page 40; programmed learning exercise, page 43). Therefore the correct answer is 3.
