G'day everyone. I passed my RPLA theory examination today at a result of 92%. I have two lessons left in my RPL syllabus before I can go for my flight test. I was just wondering if anyone has some useful tips in order to prepare for the RPL flight test from those who have done it before, and possibly some information regarding the oral component before the flight test itself if applicable. I was told a while back that on the same day of the flight test, the examiner will ask you questions about aircraft systems, engines, etc. Also that I may have to draw an engine diagram up for the examiner... Has anybody had any experience with this? Thanks everyone

While there will be a bit of variation amongst examiners, they are following CASA guidelines. If you approach the pre-flight oral brief as being a viva voce theory exam with an emphasis on those areas highlighted in your KDRs you will be well-placed. Whatever you do, don't fall into the trap of thinking that, with the formal theory exam done, you can relax. That's a good way to set yourself up for an oral fail and no going for a flight test. Keep in the books and work on the basis that the oral will be harder (potentially) than the written.
