Just after some clarification on fixed reserves please. The Performance book seems to be jumping from either cruise rate or hold rates. is this something that will be advised in the exam? Thanks In advance.

The fixed reserve is not a fixed number of gallons or litres. The requirement for the fixed reserve is 30mins for PVT and AWK and 45mins for CHTR. The only requirement is that the fuel you carry as a fixed reserve will last for those times. It is entirely up to you or your company to decide the consumption rate that you want to use for the 30/45 min fixed reserve.

The book gives you various examples which are sometimes based on normal cruise and sometimes based on a fixed figure such as 15 gallons. The exam will do the same. Each question will tell you what fuel flow applies for the 45 or 30 minute fixed reserve. The CASA exam question will also make it clear whether the flight is PVT or CHTR.
