Wow! That is an absolute ripper. A properly formed tornadic waterspout - essentially a tornado over water. They are not at all common at this intensity in Australia so to get a shot like that is very lucky.

No its not my own photo, a friends. Be nice if they actually had a proper camera instead of the old quick snap on the iPhone 🙂 I have seen a few different angles of the same photo taken, ill see if i can get them.

They are fantastic shots. I've never seen such a powerful and long-lasting waterspout. Any chance of sending me a copy of the original video - I'd like to edit it and use it in our class presentation for Met [with your permission of course].
