I have gotten a bit confused with a met question, I have reached out to instructors and have gotten varying answers. I thought I might put to the people to seek my answer. In the PPE Met course it states: As we can see in Figure 2.6-6, the winds will veer more over land then they will over water. You may be asked a question on the wind direction at a given point using a Synoptic chart, and you MUST apply the appropriate veering direction to give your answer.
Normally I would take this as gospel, however through discussions at my flight school I was told that you do not need to take this into account. This was then a KDR on my exam so I would like to get a straight forward answer.
My question is quite simple. When given a question when they are asking for a wind direction in a particular place (when given a synoptic chart) do you then need to take the veering of the surface wind into account?
