Can anybody help please?
Working through GM 3 and Q16. Answer is A. Page 54.
Reads that if the ELR is b/w the DALR and SALR that the atmosphere is Conditionally Stable in the absence of moisture. (DRY) yet back on Page 45 it mentions that when the ELR is b/w the DALR and SALR the atmosphere in Conditionally Unstable. Just a little confused.
Thanks.
There's really no difference between the two terms. 'Conditionally stable' means that the atmosphere is stable for dry air, but unstable for saturated air. 'Conditionally unstable' means the atmosphere is unstable for saturated air and stable for dry air. That's just two ways of saying the same thing. The term 'conditionally unstable' is used more frequently nowadays. Thanks for pointing that out, I agree that it could cause some confusion. I'll change the wording in the answer to 'conditionally unstable, for the sake of consistency.
