Hi
I am doing my IREX exam in 2 weeks and have a question regarding recency.
61.870 (2): to be recent, you have to do 3 approaches in last 90 days IN AIRCRAFT OR APPROVED SIM.
61.870 (3) states that at least one of those approaches has to be in an aircraft OF THE SAME CATEGORY in which you want to be flying in. Now I always took this as at least one approach has to be in a real aircraft which you will be flying in, and the other two can be in a sim. But if you read the regulation carefully, it stated under (3) "at least one inst appr within 90 days IN AN AIRCRAFT OF THE SAME CATEGORY OR AN APPROVED FLIGHT SIMULATOR".. How does that make any sense? I though it cant be in a simulator.
Then I tried Bob's revision questions and Q23 under general questions asks the same thing. The answer given doesnt mention anything about the real aircraft.. So have I always misunderstood this rule?
Thanks for your input.
Ethan

You can do all of your recency in an approved synthetic trainer.
