Anyone got an answer to this one ?

P 3.24 Q4 - The Visibility: 5000M SH/RA 3000 TS stated in the ARFOR indicates that an alternate is needed ? It has not been subdivided as both Cloud and Wind have into A and B areas.

The answer seems to concerntrate purely on cloud base and an 8k vis (not sure where that comes from.)

Thanks in advance.

The visibility is given as 5000m in showers and rain, and 3000m in thunderstorms. This does not mean that the visibility throughout the entire area is like that. If you are not in the showers or rain or thunderstorms, the visibility will be OK. If they meant the the visibility is 3000m throughout the entire area, they would just say visibility 3000m with no mention of showers or rain.

Since the showers and thunderstorms are west of the trough [see 'weather'], the visibility east of the trough would be 10km or better.

Thank you Bob,

Not wishing to split hairs but both Wind and Cloud are subdidvded, however, Weather is not and specifically mentions 'west of trough'; therefore one would assume the Vis to be pertinent to the whole ARFOR area. Just the way I read it..thanks again,

Guy.
