Hey Bob, Richard and the forum community!
I recently sat IREX and passed (second time round) with 83% - so relieved! :laugh: Thanks for such a sound study guide and a perfect set of revision questions (to everyone reading - do every single question in Bob's book!! It will help immensely).
I just have a couple of questions;
1.(This is a question I got in the exam, so I won’t spill all the details) When do you require your transponder to be providing altitude information? I looked everywhere for a direct reference, but couldn’t find an exact answer. The possible answers were on the lines of;
(a) At all times in CTA and class G airspace
(b) At all times in CTA, and in class G airspace when within radar coverage
…you get the idea of the answers!
I was wondering if you had a direct AIP reference for this?
2.Second question is relating to PEC (I’m fairly sure I know, but just to be 100% sure). When you receive a question such as: You are flying the 27ILS into Melbourne, with a PEC of 20’, what is your DA? Am I right in saying that if the question provides the PEC that you need not do anything with it (i.e. do not need to add 20’ to the DA)?
Thanks in advanced!
Tom
Congratulations mate! And a good solid pass as well.......
According to AIP ENR 1.1 para 41.1.7, your transponder should be turned on at all times, inside or outside of controlled airspace. This allows aircraft with TCAS to locate you even OCTA.
Ah great, thanks for that explanation Bob. Makes perfect sense now! Could you shed some light on my second question? Also, I didn't realise I didn't post this in the IREX forum...any chance you could move it?
Cheers,
Tom
