Hi,
Need a bit of help on a cyber exam question.

NDB at origin (A) and at destination (B). Distance between 380nm, Planned groundspeed 193 kts. Headwind 10kts. What is the least rated coverage of the B NDB.

I ignored the 10 kt headwind as I was already given a planned groundspeed and not a TAS. So 380nm is 2.0hrs. No limit there. Does this mean 20nm (the min in the multichoice answers) is correct.

Thanks,

Heff

G'day Heff,

My take is that you also need to allow for a track error of 9 degrees either side of FPT from the last positive fix (i.e departure aerodrome) and still be within rated coverage of the destination aid (AIP ENR 1.1 para 19.1.1.c).

Given D=6.66xR (where D is the distance between aids and R is the rated coverage of the destination aid), and;

D=380nm; then

R=380/6.66 = 57nm

Hope that's right.

Cheers,
Brian
